A Maybe Date

A Maybe Date is where you're not quite sure if it's a real-date or a friendly meeting.
The ambiguity arises when one (or both of you) are completely out of touch with dating or flirting and therefore come across like an indifferent tool. Enter Tool Kelly.
Here are the stages of my demise:
Met a wonderfully intelligent, musically talented, rather dashing fellow
Managed to make Dashing Fellow laugh with an unintended pun so decided I was hot stuff
Stalked Dashing Fellow online and messaged him to invite out for a 'coffee or drink some time'
Dashing Fellow says yes and 10 days of light-hearted small talk on whatsapp follows
We met for a walk in the park in the late afternoon sun. We talked of music, poetry, literature. He made me laugh. I made no more puns just to be on the safe side. It was an evening of dreams which turned into an enjoyable three course dinner.
The food was stunning, the conversation got better and he insisted I take his sweater as I was chilly. What a gentleman.
Dashing Fellow walked me home and even came in for tea (sadly not a euphemism). I lent him a book by an author we'd talked about before our Maybe Date - a clever way to ensure we'd meet again, I thought.
He messaged me when he got home.
I've not heard from him since.
Didn't even make it into the friend zone🤦🏽♀️
