What to pack for a year’s travel (if you’re not a photogenic person)
Updated: Nov 2, 2019
I don’t like things. Things are heavy and expensive. Morally, I feel things are bad for the environment and tend to feed into the consumerist culture of always wanting more. I love experiences. And food.
The camera doesn’t really like me - as you can tell given that there are more pictures of Saki than me on this site. With all this in mind, I packed minimally for travels:
4 pairs of leggings
3 t-shirts
1 double-sided skirt
Gym gear & skipping rope*
1 waterproof jacket
1 pair of waterproof trousers
1 pair of trainers
1 pair of sandals
1 light jumper
1 thermal t-shirt layer
Pair of gloves
1 big pashmina (works as a towel, a beach sheet, a blanket for bed/plane)
1 bar of soap for showering, washing hair & cleaning clothes
Tub of cocoa-butter (body & face moisturiser)
First aid kit
Laptop, Kindle, phone
A knee brace & a million paracetamols (I’ve clearly aged since I last travelled in my 20s)
*Update: I sent the gym gear home after 4 weeks of not exercising once!

Including the weight of the bag, this came to exactly 10kg which doesn’t sound like much but will certainly feel like it when traipsing around looking for a hostel...
